Crucify Him

Joe Lieberman is scheduled to headline Pastor John Hagee's 2008 Christians United For Israel Summit in July.

There are so many things wrong with this that it's difficult to decide where to begin.

Let's begin with "Christians United For Israel." The particular Christians that follow Hagee want a permanent Israel so that The End Times Prophecy will be fulfilled and the Rapture will occur. In that Rapture the Jews (among others) are destined for Hell. Yes, Lieberman is aligning himself with a mano of God and his followers who are absolutely certain that Lieberman will spend eternity in Hell, which is where I think Lieberman belongs. Lieberman's lame-ass comment that Hagee represents many people "...particularly Christians who care about the state of Israel." is idiotic, if not certainly masochistic.

Next let's take a look at the type of Pastor Hagee is. Hagee takes people who join his church into the woods to "vomit out all the demons that everyone has acquired." Hagee believes that every single person has demons in them that they got when they were children.

Included in the list of demons that Hagee has his parishoners puke out into paper bags are the "demon of handwriting analysis" and the "demon of anal fissures."
Really, no lie. This guy is fucked-up certifiable. Hagee has made bigoted, idiotic, hateful statements about gays, Muslims, and Catholics. If all's fair in politics, Lieberman (and by proxy, McCain) should be crucified for this.

News From the Santorum

He lost his re-election bid and no longer holds public office, but that hasn't stopped ousted Republican Rick Santorum from spreading shit.

In a recent Philadelphia Inquirer column Rick Santorum penned a shrill rant against the California Supreme Court for its recent ruling allowing gay marriage.

To underscore his assertion that gay marriage = the collapse of civilization, he (inaccurately!) points to Norway:

"Look at Norway. It began allowing same-sex marriage in the 1990s. In just the last decade, its heterosexual-marriage rates have nose-dived (WRONG!)and its out-of-wedlock birthrate skyrocketed to 80 percent (WRONG!) for firstborn children. Too bad for those kids who probably won’t have a dad around, but we can’t let the welfare of children stand in the way of social affirmation, can we?

But what about love? That’s the question a student asked this winter when I spoke at Georgetown University.

Is anyone saying same-sex couples can’t love each other? I love my children (hopefully NOT like same-sex couples love each other you sick, sick bastard). I love my friends, my brother. Heck, I even love my mother-in-law. Should we call these relationships marriage, too? Marriage is and always has been more than the acknowledgment of the love between two people (Is Santorum referring to arrainged marriages that were the norm until the late 1800's?).

Like the lying piece of shit that he is, Santorum gives no sources for his inaccurate statistics. Norway began allowing same-sex civil unions in 1993.
But according to M.V. Lee Badgett, an economics professor at the University of Massachusetts, Norway’s “big surge” in the nonmarital birth rate occurred in the 1980s, jumping from 16 percent to 39 percent. In the decade after Norway authorized civil unions, the nonmarital birth rate rose only “slightly,” and then, “after a couple of years, leveled off at 50 percent.” These rates are similar to those in countries without such laws.

Additionally, in a 2006 Wall Street Journal op-ed, William Eskridge, Jr., a Yale professor, and author Darren Spedale found that heterosexual marriage rates have actually risen 12.7 percent in Norway since 1993. Similarly, divorce rates amongst heterosexual couples have fallen 6 percent.

(I have altered this original story from ThinkProgress http://thinkprogress.org/2008/05/22/santorum-gay/ with my own comments and expletives)

Santorum is now a Fellow at the Ethics and Public Policy Center so I sent an email to him there asking for his sources about the Norway stats. I think getting a response is about as likely as finding a Republican pol who can tell the truth.

Shrub Scrub

So the White House is officially pissed that NBC edited out 2 sentences in an interview with Bush. Bush counsel Ed Gillespie, in a letter to NBC News President Steve Capus, said that "this deceitful editing to further a media-manufactured storyline is utterly misleading and irresponsible."

Oh Puh-Leeze!

Like the White House isn't guilty of worse. The White House has actually changed official transcripts so that Bush and his administration don't look like the idiot liars that they are. The White House re-writes history all the time:

Controversy about what exactly was said at the White House press conference on October 31 2005. Everyone agrees NBC’s David Gregory said this:

Q Whether there’s a question of legality, we know for a fact that there was involvement. We know that Karl Rove, based on what he and his lawyer have said, did have a conversation about somebody who Patrick Fitzgerald said was a covert officer of the Central Intelligence Agency. We know that Scooter Libby also had conversations.

Congressional Quarterly and FNS both transcribed Press Secretary Scott McClellan’s answer as “That’s accurate.” The White House transcript lists McClellan’s answer as “I don’t think that’s accurate.”

AND
White House Press Office: Transcript of President Bush's First Press Conference Posted and Scrubbed 2/22/01

CocoaGate: White House Scrubs the 'Cocoa' Bushism. During Bush's first press conference, he said a number of incoherent things. One that was the butt of many jokes was his reference to the cultivation of "cocoa" leaves in Columbia. (Listen to the audio for yourself at 19:26.) Well, somehow "cocoa" was changed to "coca" when the official White House transcript was posted. Tampering with government documents is a crime.

It's About Damn Time!

Finally, a Democrat calls it like it is. If more Democrats had been willing to point out Bush's bullshit, maybe we wouldn't have had to endure a painful and debilitating second term from this moron.

Biden calls Bush comments 'bullshit'

(CNN) — The chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee Joe Biden, D-Delaware, called President Bush’s comments accusing Sen. Barack Obama and other Democrats of wanting to appease terrorists "bulls**t” and said if the president disagrees so strongly with the idea of talking to Iran then he needs to fire his secretaries of State and Defense, both of whom Biden said have pushed to sit down with the Iranians.

“This is bullshit. This is malarkey. This is outrageous. Outrageous for the president of the United States to go to a foreign country, sit in the Knesset…and make this kind of ridiculous statement,” Biden said angrily in a brief interview just off the Senate floor.

“He’s the guy who’s weakened us. He’s the guy that’s increased the number of terrorists in the world. His policies have produced this vulnerability the United States has. His intelligence community pointed that out not me. The NIE has pointed that out and what are you talking about, is he going to fire Condi Rice? Condi Rice has talked about the need to sit down. So his first two appeasers are Rice and Gates. I hope he comes home and does something.”

He quoted Gates saying Wednesday that we “need to figure out a way to develop some leverage and then sit down and talk with them.”

Right. Having a letter from the TSA in your permanent file with the phrase “I have determined that you pose a security threat,” shouldn't be a problem in the future at all. Right

Blunt Federal Letters Tell Students They’re Security Threats
By SCOTT SHANE
WASHINGTON — A German graduate student in oceanography at M.I.T. applied to the Transportation Security Administration for a new ID card allowing him to work around ships and docks.

What the student, Wilken-Jon von Appen, received in return was a letter that not only turned him down but added an ominous warning from John M. Busch, a security administration official: “I have determined that you pose a security threat.”

Similar letters have gone to 5,000 applicants across the country who have at least initially been turned down for a Transportation Worker Identification Credential, an ID card meant to guard against acts of terrorism, agency officials said Monday.

The officials also said they were sorry about the language, which they may change in the future, but had no intention of withdrawing letters already sent.

“It’s an unfortunate choice of words in a bureaucratic letter,” said Ellen Howe, a security agency spokeswoman.

Ms. Howe and Maurine Fanguy, who oversees the new ID card program, said that most foreign students did not qualify for the identity cards, but that the letters were not intended to label the recipients as potential terrorists. (Some applicants are also turned down because of criminal records.)

Mr. von Appen, 23, one of at least four oceanography students at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology who received identical letters, said he was stunned by its language.

“I was pretty much speechless and quite intimidated,” said Mr. von Appen, whose research is supported by a $65,000-a-year grant from the National Science Foundation.

A British student at M.I.T. who was rejected, Sophie Clayton, 28, said that at first she was amused at what appeared to be a bureaucratic absurdity. But as she pondered the designation, Ms. Clayton said she grew worried. “The two words ‘security threat’ are now in the files next to my name, my photograph and my fingerprints,” she said.

Institute officials were also disturbed. The agency controls airport security, and “our students travel in and out of the country a lot,” said Danielle Guichard-Ashbrook, associate dean and director of the international student office at M.I.T.

And the agency is part of the Department of Homeland Security, which oversees immigration matters, including student visas.

Ms. Guichard-Ashbrook said the security agency should remove the misleading language from all files and issue new letters formally withdrawing the “threat” label.

But Ms. Howe, the agency spokeswoman, said that the letters were legal, if flawed, and that there were no plans to send replacements.

She said she did not believe the denial letters would cause students any problems with visa renewal or airport security checks. They will even be able to enter secure ports and ships for their work as long as they are accompanied by someone with the new ID, Ms. Howe said.

The Transportation Worker Identification Credential requirement is being phased in starting Oct. 15. The cards cost the applicant $132.50 and have been issued to 275,000 people so far of 1.2 million people expected to receive the credential, officials said.

The Devil is in the Details

If you are not a blithering idiot and are not in complete denial of the truth, you already know that the gas Saddam used to kill his Kurds in March of 1988 was supplied by Reagan and special envoy Donald Rumsfeld.

But afterwards when the world community and the U.N. wanted to sanction Saddam for killing his own people, Ronald Reagan stepped in and quashed the U.N. sanction against Saddam because Reagan wanted to use Saddam to defeat Iran. Details.

Yes, that is correct-- that icon of icons, Ronald Reagan actually PREVENTED the world from castigating Saddam for killing his own people.

I just LOVE the picture of Rumsfeld shaking hands with Saddam.

Bill O'Reilly is a Bitch

HA! Watch Bill lose his shit and cuss, curse, profane, and generally act like a little child having a temper tantrum when he can't figure out long-established television jargon (which is no surprise because Bill is a fucking hack).
This clip of Bill from his "Inside Edition" days shows him ranting and screaming because he cannot for the life of him figure out what "And Sting will Play us out" means as he goes to commercial.

Get Involved in America

My Message: Crime

Two federal statutes require presidential communications, including e-mails involving senior White House aides, to be preserved for the nation's historical record.

I would like you, Senator Cornyn, to investigate and give me an answer as to how the Bush administration has not found disaster recovery files for White House e-mails from a three-month time period in 2003.

The White House chief information officer, Theresa Payton, said in a sworn declaration that the White House has identified more than 400 computer backup tapes from March through September of 2003 but that the earliest recorded file was dated May 23 of that year.

That period was one of the most crucial of the Bush presidency. The United States launched the invasion of Iraq on March 20, 2003, and President Bush declared the end of major combat operations on May 1.

Nearly 500 days' worth of White House e-mails from 2003 to 2005 are missing yet the Bush administration is arguing there is still no clear evidence of a problem. That is utterly incorrect.

Please keep me informed about your progress in pressuring the White House as to the whereabouts of these "missing" emails.

Respectfully,
David Porter

Your Message:
Welfare Reform
I strongly urge you to file the following complaint with the House Ethics Committee:

"I respectfully request that the House Committee on Standards of Official Conduct (Ethics Committee) open an investigation into the insertion of the $10 million “Coconut Road” earmark during the enrollment process, and whether this is the only instance where a conference report has been materially altered before transmission to the President for his signature.

The Coconut Road earmark was inserted into H.R. 3, the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU), before the President signed it into law on August 12, 2005. When the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate passed H.R. 3 on July 29, 2005, the bill contained an earmark directing $10,000,000 for “Widening and Improvements for I-75 in Collier and Lee County.” However, the version of H.R. 3 that was signed by the President contained a change in the description of the earmark so that it read “Coconut Rd. Interchange I-75/Lee County.”

Rep. Young has publicly taken responsibility for altering the earmark during the enrollment process.

Both the House of Representatives and the Senate have requested that the Department of Justice conduct an investigation of Rep. Young’s actions.

I request that the Ethics Committee initiate an investigation to determine if:
1. Rep. Young’s actions violate House Rules of Conduct, and
2. Other conference reports have been materially altered during the enrollment process."

The $10 million earmark directly benefited real estate developer Daniel Aronoff, who helped raise $40,000 for Rep. Young at the nearby Hyatt Coconut Point hotel only days before Congress considered the highway act. Aronoff needed the money to build a new highway interchange that the local zoning commission had twice refused to fund because the road would destroy local wetlands.

I look forward to your response.

Are You Kidding Me!

Political break-ins and intimidation are back in vogue. Seven people associated with three federal cases involving Bush-loyal U.S. attorneys who have maliciously and illegally targeted people for their political affiliation have experienced 10 suspicious incidents including break-ins and arson. The targets of these politically-based prosecutions or their attorney’s have seen a plague of home and office break-ins in which only files were taken and have also been the victims of arson at both offices AND homes. Dana Jill Simpson, a whistleblower in one case was even run off the road two weeks after her home was burned to the ground. Coincidence? Hell no. The most severe kind of intimidation? Hell yes.

The Bush administration has the biggest balls of any former (and I will dare say future) presidential administration in history.
